Preschool At Home: T is for Train

T is for Trains (Letter T)

We're kicking off our second week of Preschool At Home with the Letter T!! Enjoy and feel free to share any additional ideas in the comments section!!

Book of the Week:

"The Little Engine that Could" by Watty Piper

Summary:
In this well-loved classic, a little train carrying oodles of toys to all of the good boys and girls is confronted with a towering, seemingly impassable mountain. As nicely as they ask, the toys cannot convince the Shiny New Engine or the Big Strong Engine--far too impressed with themselves--to say anything but "I can not. I can not." It is left up to the Little Blue Engine to overcome insurmountable odds and pull the train to the other side.

Craft: Toilet Paper Tube Train

Here’s a link to the Homeschool Creations blog where it shows you how to make this cute Toilet Paper Tube Train! We haven’t got a chance to make these yet at our house, but I will be sure to update with pictures once we do at the end of the week!!

Beginning Letter Sounds T Cards

There are four pages shown in this set. Two pages have 9 picture cards each with objects that begin with the Letter T. Included are 18 word cards. Print the sheets, cut them out and laminate them to make them more sturdy. The cards can be used in teaching beginning Letter T sounds. Parents can help your preschoolers cut out the pictures that begin with the letter and glue them to a sheet of paper to make a Letter F book or collage. Or they can also be used as a matching game for older children to match word to picture. Click on the picture above to download a copy.

Math Manipulatives:

I found a great site called Kelly's Kindergarten that has 2 files of pattern block patterns to download. There is a Set #1 and a Set #2. To make these a little more sturdy, you can cut these out, glue them on a manila folder and then laminate them.

AND… If you don’t own any pattern blocks, here are some that you can print on the corresponding color of paper to use. I would suggest printing on a thicker cardstock paper. Here’s the link:
